Chasing the motive

When you take a picture of something you want to have a picture of, the picture you take, will pretty soon appear to be a picture of much more than what you thought the picture should display. And what is this "more"? Is it more of the motive that engaged you, or is it more of and of something different which is attached to and next to the motive? When I took the picture of the birch which was cut down, it was the birch I wanted to have a picture of. However, the picture was not that successful, not like what I had imagined it should be. Instead of, when I was doing the edition work on the picture, I got a fascinating picture of the fjord an the mountains which I was not so much aware of when I snapped the photo.

The picture above is of the same birch, part of it, and I went closer to her. Is it the same motive? What is the motive? What should be its title? Is that a question the picture is the only one to bring the answer to?

På jakt etter motivet

Når du tek eit bilde av noko som du vil ha eit bilde av, vil bildet som du tek, fort vise seg å vere eit bilde av mykje meir enn det som du tenkte bildet skulle vise. Og kva er dette "meir"? Er det meir av motivet du hadde i tankane, eller er det meir og noko anna som er attåt og ved sida av motivet? Da eg tok bildet av den felte bjørka, var det bjørka eg ville fotografere. Men det vart ikkje noko spesielt godt bilde av henne, ikkje slik som eg hadde tenkt det skulle vere. I staden for, da eg sat og redigerte bildet, fekk eg eit fascinerande bilde av fjorden og fjella som eg ikkje hadde lagt så spesielt mykje merke til da eg tok bildet.

Bildet ovanfor er av same bjørka, litt av ho, og eg har gått tettare innpå. Er det same motivet? Kva er motivet? Kva namn bør det ha? Er dette eit spørsmål som berre bildet kan svare på?
