Jotting jolts
Thanks to your replies and comments to my writing
and question in sheet 4 my thoughts have given several jolts - and
I really want to thank you! And because of my new camera my shooting has for this weekend
been in a bustle. Beside this there has been a great local cultural event in Volda called
"Greek winds" - so I will trust that like when one is churning butter out of
cream, focus will survive and become firmer and clearer, - or if it will fall apart
because of the shaking, we will see the results are grains dropping to the floor, released
from the chaff, like during the treshing work.
Samples of the butter and grain are quoted below.

Kinning og treskjing
Takk for svar og kommentarar til ark 4 om fokus, - om fokus og fokus! Denne helga har eg vore forkava
med å kome på talefot med det nye kameraet mitt, og dessutan har det vore "Greske
vindar i Volda" - eit spennande kulturprogram! Eg stoler på at fokus vil stå han av
oppi all aktiviteten, - at fokus vil fastne og bli tydelegare liksom smøret i kinna, at
fokus vil skilje seg frå agner og snerp liksom det matrike kornet drys ned på golvet
under treskjinga.
Prøver av smøret og kornet er sitert nedanfor.
um, er - i dont understand the hocus focus jottings.
re the photos, i was amused to imagine you chopping, and
then stopping to take a photo, then chopping some more, then
another photo, in a kind of self-observing way, as though
you were converting the woodchopping task into the task of
an artist. it's certainly one way to render chores more
creative.

Hey Enok, that focus-chopping thing reminds me of the writings of Thomas
Lowe Taylor. One of his works is called, "The One The Same and The Other"
You can read his works at http://anabasispress.com
He is also doing "multiple-focus" photography, see "The Mask of the
Beloved" on the site... Also

on my site... The
opening page is http://members.surfeu.fi/exp in
case anyone is
interested..

"Focus is one and are lots of focuses which always are different and
all the time are the same and is one."
Does that make sense?

no, not really. Not to me. (but that doesn't mean much, perhaps).
It made me think though, in focusing on something you make the
object/action to something of yourself. And focussing on something
else (later, 'cause in my mind is quite an exclusive thing), you make
it yours, it may be a different thing but your relation to it is in a sense
dimilar to the first object. And in the sense that we can never know
the object but only our relation to it, they are similar.
Ams I know back at where I was starting from, am I saying the same
thing you were, but only less concise (less focussed).?
BTW, I amgetting less and less good in being focussed, I used to be
so much better, my attention feels so more flighty. Is this an age
thing?

Does that make sense? I am trying to understand what you mean Enok, but am
not sure. Do you mean that a person's attention is always shifting and
cannot remain in a particular focus for long. At the same time the object of
their focus, angle of studying a thing is also moving, so that one has to
keep re-focusing, but it is all part of the same concentrated effort?
btw (1) my dictionary gives 4 definitions:
1. the point at which rays meet or from which they appear to proceed. 2. the
point or distance at which an object is most clearly seen by the eye or
through a lens. 3. an adjustment on a lens to produce a clear image at
varying distances. 4. a centre of activity or interest, etc.
(the Oxford paperback)
btw (2) looking at your pictures, I notice that you've taken the precaution
of putting your initials on your chopper as well as your gloves. :)
