Still no rain
| Thanks Enok. Still no rain, still very
hot, still the ever present danger of fire. Several days ago we had some dry thunderstorms, the lightning from which started a fire to the west of us. Fortunately, the winds were light and the fire brigade from Uralla was able to put it out in a few hours. Yesterday I bought a second fire-fighting pump and installed it next to our big rainwater tank. The pipe from the pump will run underground up close to the house, from where I can take a hose up onto the roof of the house. Also I took the rotary hoe out and ploughed up a strip of ground 100 feet wide to the north west and west of the house - it might help a bit if a fire arrives from that direction. Trust all is well in that beautiful country of yours where it rains (or snows) when needed. Regards Ian (26th Jan 03) |
