A wedding
recently i was a guest at a wedding conducted on an
islet in a lake at the bottom of a great wild garden in
the mountains an hour east of the city...
i am able to drive quite close. the track snakes down
the mountainside, etched by a hand built rock wall. a
welsh harpist has also found his way to the islet, and
his music soothes us as we await the bride. her arrival
brings serenity, her face a picture of concentration.
she smiles not at all, her focus within, and towards
the groom, father of the child she carries. with the
celebrant they make their way onto a footbridge. the
day has been overcast, but as soon as the ceremony
begins the clouds part, pouring sunlight over the
couple. the bride is overcome with emotion at some
moments during their exchange of personal vows, which
we follow in a booklet they have prepared. such a
private moment for them, and yet our presence makes it
public. they move from the bridge to stand among us to
exchange rings, and the kookaburras start to laugh!
a joyful carillion.
may nature continue to provide blessings on cue for
this special couple.
